Rock And Roll Inspires An Urban Coastal Penthouse

Built in 2020, The Mark holds 157 luxury condos located in downtown Sarasota. Creativity flows in every corner of this town. All things art, music, and design are embraced. Inspiring attractions such as The Ringling College of Art and Design, Marie Selby Botanical Gardens, and The Sarasota Art Museum surround the ever growing location. Owner and Senior Designer Kelly Kaiser-Putnam returned to her rock n’ roll roots while designing this perfectly edgy and chic urban penthouse for a family of 5.

Rock And Roll Town

Just up the road on Bird Key resides Brian Johnson of AC/DC. Head north to Lakewood Ranch and you’ll find the home of Rolling Stones icon, Mick Jager. Longboat Key is lucky enough to have Joe Perry of Aerosmith. “This kind of inspiration brought me back to the 80’s and 90’s, my concert days.” says Kaiser.

Achieving the right height when mounting a TV can be tricky. Kaiser got creative when fixing this design issue. “The TV was mounted much too high. So, I had all of this space between the media cabinet and the TV to fill. I decided to fill it with books and a mixture of black and white prints. I wanted to be mindful of the urban location and stay culturally conscious when selecting the artwork.” says Kaiser.

Kaiser continues to push the envelope when it comes to coastal living. There are many different ways to evoke a fresh design. “With the location and the vibe downtown, I vowed to myself – ZERO seashells!”

Bring In The Edge

Kaiser stepped into a beautiful blank canvas. What is a design challenge for some, Kaiser welcomes the dilemma clients have in designing their untouched spaces. “The black accents in this home invited me to think – wow, this would be a really cool hangout for some rock n’ roller musicians.” says Kaiser. “The client has a relaxed bohemian style that is very current right now, so I wanted to bring a little edge to that to make it different. I didn’t want this to look like Instagram minimalism.”

Family and Function

A family with teens in a penthouse? When your home is this cool, why not? This impressive floorplan was complete with 3 bedrooms and extra lounge space. Kaiser decided to section off that space with custom metal barn doors. The mix of metal and mirror fit the space to a T.
